Ecstasy

Many people are scared of drug because we are taught that we should be by the war on drugs. I am not, and I think the war is more harmful than good since it causes poverty, suicide, and crime. Now that I said that I feel better.

Ecstasy has a long history as it has been around for nearly 100 years. Read about the history of ecstasy

The neurotransmitter serotonin is vital in regulating many of our basic functions. Constantly our body is producing and breaking down serotonin. When serotonin is in the synapse it is allowed to transfer a signal from one brain cell to another. Serotonin is, among other things, the feel good neurotransmitter. While many people take ecstasy, few people actually do the research into what it does.

Our brain cells are constantly trying to bring some amount of serotonin back into the cells and out of the synapse using serotonin reuptake transporters. You can think of these serotonin reuptake transporters as worker bees collecting serotonin for the brain cells. When the serotonin is in the brain cell it is stored for later use or converted to other things depending on the brains needs.

Ecstasy essentially takes these upkeep transporters and reverses their roles. This causes a massive flood of serotonin from the brain cells into the synapse. The apparent feeling of pleasure that ensues lasts 4 to 6 hours. Because the brain has a limited amount of serotonin, we can not continue to take more ecstasy after we start coming down to feel high again. In fact serotonin levels dip and may take a week or 2 to restore after heavy ecstacy usage. You can reduce the ecstasy restoration time by doing Ecstasy less frequently, in smaller doses, or by using 5HTP before and after usage.

Simply put you only have so much serotonin. There are natural ways to enhance serotonin levels though. Simply by eating the right food, taking supplements like 5HTP, or exercising will help improve your natural creation of serotonin.

Ecstasy does not cure depression on the long term though, and Ecstasy may actually aid in furthering the depression. If you are severely depressed it is not a good idea to use ecstasy. Ecstasy does have many potentially damaging effects.
